Pick Your Own Strawberries @ Murphy’s Country Produce

A few weeks back I had the opportunity to visit Murphy’s Country Produce and take part in their annual “Pick Your Own”, during strawberry season. Here are some tips if you do choose to visit Murphy’s or any other farm in your area which allows visitors to pick their own berries, fruits or vegetables. Directly after you’ll be able to watch the video I shot while there.

Tips on “Pick Your Own Strawberries”.

• dress for the weather (on hot days wear a hat, sunglasses, loose clothing etc )
• pack a bottle of water
• you’re in an open field so be prepared for heat or cold (the weather can vary during mid-spring)
• wear sunblock
• umbrella? (if you decide to stay long I guess)
• bugs.. bug spray (repellent)
• since you’re allowed to eat while you pick, you’ll need the water (mentioned above) not only to keep hydrated, but to wash off the strawberries before eating.. maybe paper towels too!
• remember you pay by the container you pick
• you may also purchase already picked berries on exit
• they will provide a basket (charge) or you can bring the one you used last season (seen in image above)
• please follow the guidelines they set out (which rows you can pick from… as that’s the way they keep track of which rows were harvested)
• to avoid insane heat (as in my case) go later in the evening (check what time they are open until though)
• however keep in mind that going early will be nice and cool and you’ll have first dibs at the plump, ripe and juicy strawberries
• bring your children (and grandpa) as it’s an amazing experience
