2013 Delicious Food Show Toronto.

dougnuts

I was invited down this morning at the official kick-start to this years Delicious Food Show in Toronto, with a Martha Stewart press conference and cutting of the ceremonial cake to officially open the 3 day food show. Is it the trend to start late these days? At least there were a small buffet of gourmet hot (and cold) drinks along with many delicious “bites” to keep the 100 or so media type occupied as we waited.

Must mention: The “bites” were provided by Jennifer Commins of PLUCK www.pluckteas.com – ladies and gents… you must give them a try (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pluck-Tea/380155302062175 and http://twitter.com/PluckTeas)

Here are some pics from the event…

The press conference was short and in fact quite boring. No hard hitting questions… “what kitchen tool would you want to be stuck with on a deserted island?” Ms Stewart was quite right in saying is was a bit of a dumb question. Her reply… wait.. “A fishing hook”  There was the one question which did have her searching for a calculated response, but in her true professional nature she was smooth as silk in responding. “How do you feel about social media?” This in response to comments Martha made about bloggers on a syndicated tv show recently.

The Delicious Food Show.

As indicated in the video above, it felt as if something was missing from the last time we visited. I’m not impressed by breads which resemble cardboard and overly expensive oils are not my thing. After the doors we officially opened it felt as if a swarm of school kids descended on the show. I have no problem with students at the show, but in such numbers that every booth was crowded by what seemed like kids looking for a free lunch (samples). Why not reserve a specific time and invite all the local schools? Unless this was that time?

The beautiful space is complimented by the wide aisles and easy flow so visitors can easily access everything (unless crowded by those pesky students). The access to such celebrity chefs like Lynn Crawford, Martha Stewart, David Rocco, Nadia G, Chuck Hughes, Mark McEwan and Abbey Sharp is wonderful..granted you may have to purchase a book of theirs to actually get close to them to chat. The food demo at the Home depot kitchen stage is a wonderful experience as is the kitchen itself – stunning!

The highlight for me was Steven and Chris (from the Steven and Chris Show) and I’m not really a fan of their show… but I love their energy on stage and overall presence. If I didn’t have the previous experience to compare today’s visit to, I’d probably say this was an amazing show all foodies in the area must attend. So do head down to the Better Living Centre this weekend and give the Delicious food Show a try. But be prepared to spend over $14 in parking!
