Wilkinson Sword Shaving Brush And Shaving Bowl.

Saturdays were reserved for dad, my little brother and I to hit the barber shop, watch Kung Fu movies and get Chinese food at our favorite food truck in San Fernando, Trinidad. Nothing can beat the vibe at the barber shop – the jokes, the camaraderie, advice even unwanted and fellas just enjoying each others company. I still recall watching as Joe (our barber) would work the straight razor on the leather strap, with a sort or rhythmic routine. After which he would meticulously shave dad, as we would sit there and gaze with amazement and anticipation for when we would be old enough for it to be our turn.

It’s funny how as kids we cannot wait to start shaving and as adults we dread having to put razor to face every two days.

Wilkinson Sword Shaving Brush

I’ve never been very picky when it comes to personal hygiene products, except that they must be suited for sensitive skin and my budget. So it’s no surprise to find me using everyday department store items. A few years back I was using the gel/foam stuff you’d get out of a can, that I’d squirt into my hand and simply massage onto my face. No big deal. Or so I thought! After remembering my dad’s shaving routine at home and those days at the barber shop I got the Wilkinson Sword Shaving Brush and Soap combo at Walmart to give it a test. The soft brush, rich with soap is almost therapeutic as you apply it gently onto your face. It’s very relaxing and knowing that I HATE  shaving due to the burning I get after it’s all done… this sort of calming effect is very pleasing. The only little peeve I have is that you tend to loose some of the hairs of the brush just about every time you use it and it can get stuck in your razor. But for under $10, is that to be expected? As far as care goes, I find that all you have to do is rinse with warm/hot water, shake well and allow to air dry.

Wilkinson Sword Shaving Soap Bowl

Wilkinson Sword shaving soap contains glycerin and lanolin for a moisturizing, smooth shave is what I read and I thought..ok I’ll give this a try! I want a smooth shave just like the other guy and who doesn’t want moisturized skin? I’d think that the smooth shave may have something to do with the razor as well though. After getting past the fact that the soap does smell like your grandfather’s soap (works for me as it’s very subtle and not In YOUR Face), this is money well spent. I shave every two days (not by choice) and this bowl lasts a good 6 months. It does take a few ‘circles’ to get the lather going and using hot or warm water seems to be the best way to achieve a “good” lather, but as I mentioned above, the combination of using the brush and the lather/soap on your face is very relaxing and you can pretend to be Santa.

The Wilkinson Sword Shaving Brush And Shaving Bowl is entry level and will cost you under $20… that said I’d give then a strong 3 out of 5.

I have sensitive skin and found that there are still times when I do get after-burn, but that can be attributed to a dull razor?
