As you know, Hurricane Irma has devastated a number of our sister islands. St. Martin, Antigua and Barbuda, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Turks and Caicos, have suffered immeasurable loss.
Our brothers and sisters are in desperate need of help. Some have lost everything they own and are left with just the clothes on their backs. As they start the long journey of recovery and rebuilding, I’m sure many of you are wondering how you could help.
Unfortunately, because we have seen our islands and our people taken advantage of by aid organizations and individuals who promised to help, after the devastation of past natural disasters, we are all wary of where our contributions end up once we hit the “donate” button. We want to be confident that our donations end up with the people who need it, immediately.
I think the best way to do that is to donate to reputable organizations that have a presence on the islands affected, or organizations in the region that are in close proximity to those islands. That’s why I am partnering with my friends at Birds of Paradise Public Relations to pull together a list of reputable organizations on the islands affected, and throughout the Caribbean that we can trust.
But we need your help! Please share any information you have on local aid organizations on the islands affected by Hurricane Irma, or organizations throughout the Caribbean who are coordinating donations and aid for the affected islands.
As Caribbean people and friends of the Caribbean, together we are stronger!
