Fantastic St Lawrence Market Toronto.

DSCN6501

One visit and you’ll fall in love! Rated as the best market in the world by National Geographic, the St Lawrence Market in Toronto Canada is simply a culinary spectacle. A delight for all your senses. I use any excuse in the book to visit the St Lawrence market, so with plans to attend the Toronto Boat Show it was only natural that I’d convince my party (Indy, Caron and Kelly) to be on board with me.

Rather than go on about the wonderful selection of fruits and vegetables, meats, fish and seafood, cheeses, deli meats, dried grain and fruits, flowers and the fact that if you’re on a diet you MUST avoid the bakery section on the lower floor with all the tempting breads, pastries, desserts and specialty cakes… I’ll let my pictures tell the story!

The 120 merchants are spread out on two floors, with all the meats, seafood and vegetable vendors on the upper level (Front Street entrance) and the baked good, grain and general shopping on the lower level. There are excellent dining options on both levels (yes there’s cooked food on sale as well) , but I highly recommend you visit the seafood restaurant on the top level (rear) and the fresh made pasta and sauces (top level – rear right side) is definitely a great spot to have lunch.

Can’t miss – on the upper level, smack in the middle of it all is a well stocked kitchen supply store where you’ll find kitchen gadgets and other things to make life in the kitchen more friendly.

St Lawrence Market:

Address: 92 Front St E, Toronto, ON M5E 1C3
Hours: Saturday 5:00 am – 5:00 pm  –  See all
Phone: (416) 392-7120

Parking – we usually park on the east side (Lower Jarvis Street)  of the actual market bulding, in the mufti-level parking lot (indoor) where there’s hourly and daily rates. I believe we paid around $10 for a 3 hr stay. According the the St Lawrence Market’s website: City of Toronto Green ‘P’ parking lots are located south behind the South Market Building, at Lower Jarvis Street and the Esplanade and in the parking garage on the east side of Lower Jarvis Street adjacent to the South Market, just below Front Street. On Saturday’s, Market shoppers get the special rate of $2.00 for the first two hours at this Green ‘P’ parking lot.

Tips: The market gets very crowded on Saturday’s especially before noon so do keep that in mind if you’re bringing your children with you who require a baby buggy or if you require the use of a wheel chair (there is an elevator just as you enter the main doors – upper floor). I would suggest you brave the crowds (people are always in a good mood, so you don’t have to deal with grumpy attitudes) and arrive early or risk a sold out bakery/pastry section (rear lower level). All vendors accept cash, many accept Interac or major credit cards. There are bank machines on both levels if you’d like to use Interac services.
