Sunday Brunch At Mattson & Co. Locke Street Hamilton.
When you’re looking for good food, excellent service, sublime ambiance and prices only a couple bucks more than your typical greasy spoon, you must check out Mattson & Co for their Sunday brunch. The last time Tehya and I did brunch, it was a bit of a disappointment as the restaurant failed to warn us that they had stop serving her customary Eggs Benedict.
Had it not been for a recommendation from @BellyMonsters on Twitter we would have never known about this ‘new‘ gem in Hamilton’s culinary world.
Directly below you’ll find the video we did covering the dining experience at Mattson & Co, so I’ll touch on some of the main points here and encourage you to watch the video.

Tehya: EGGS BENEDICT – eggs Benedict served on toasted crumpets with citrus hollandaise, house-made homefries & fresh fruit.
Chris: MATTSON & CO BREAKFAST – Smoked bacon, farmer’s sausage, grilled roma tomatoes, easy over eggs (your choice), house-made homefries, fresh fruit & choice of toasted artisan bread.
Our general thoughts. The hollandaise sauce was light, not over-bearing – with a lovely undertone of citrus, which complemented the poached eggs and fluffy crumpets. You can never go wrong with perfectly cooked peameal bacon which nested the wonderfully poached eggs! The Mattson & Co Breakfast HIT all points and then some. Those seasoned fries (also on Tehya’s plate) are absolutely stunning! NO sign of being overly-greasy, perfectly seasoned and just the right size (with that slight caramelized edges). Always a pleasure when you ask for over-easy eggs and you get eggs perfectly set, with that creamy center begging for your toast (you have 3 bread options). For me the star on the plate (besides the home fries) was the farmers sausage. From the crisp skin to the meaty center and juicy texture.. it was delicious. FRUIT.. typically I don’t expect much from fruit in Canada as I find that in most cases it’s usually bland. But the orange, melon and pineapple was both juicy and sweet – bravo! Yes, there was also bacon!
The portions are relatively big, so while I was able to take care of business, Tehya struggled and had to bring about half home with her.
The coffee compliments the brunch/breakfast options wonderfully – would have liked bigger cups (refills were never a problem). Tehya opted for a Caesar with tequila (not much to say about that as it was your typical Caesar drink).
Please watch the video below for more on Mattson & Co. Hopefully we can get back in there in the coming weeks to enjoy their dinner menu and jazz entertainment.
In the video you may hear me mention that the bathroom is clean. I always take a peek at a restaurant’s bathroom. Since it’s one of those rooms that most places tends to overlook, if I see them paying attention to it.. I see it as a sign that management is paying attention to ALL aspects of the customers experience.
