Lunch At Hambrgr, A Review.
Gone are the days when one had limited options for dining out in Hamilton. The local food scene is just incredible, from the ingredients you can now get at all the ethnic type grocery stores even all the major grocery chains are stocking ingredients with a more global appeal, but I think the area we’re seeing the most spectacular growth in is dining. What a glorious time to call the Hammer home!
One can easily travel the globe on their plates via the many international dining options we’re now exposed to, but there are days when all you want is a GOOD burger or fried chicken sandwich in my case. Such was the case when Tehya (@tehyadelarosaa) and I visited Hambrgr in downtown Hamilton for lunch.

Tehya started with her customary Caesar drink.. you HAVE Caesar options at Hambrgr! There’s a massive chalkboard with tasty offerings, but Tehya was captivated by the fried pickle selection.
Fried Pickle Caesar: Absolut vodka, Mott’s Clamato, pickle brine, Panko crusted fried pickle spear, Worcestershire, Tabasco, house spice rimmer, celery + fresh lime
I LUV it when a menu is placed in front of me and I’m captivated to the point where it’s almost confusing to decided which of the delicious offerings I want. I’m not a picky eater, it’s just that I’m not impressed by simple or everyday food. From the starters (there’s even bacon fat pop corn) to the assortment of burgers, Poutine and sandwiches I wanted it ALL! Commonsense and the gym commitments (Climbing Kilimanjaro in October) meant that this greasy treat will have to be limited to a certain point.
With that in mind we settled on:
Buttermilk Onion Rings: Buttermilk soaked, panko bread crumbs breaded + house ranch dip and an order of hand Cut fries with seasalt as our sides (see comment below).
Tehya opted for the #Hamont Burger – a double patty, grilled onions, American cheese, log smoked bacon, BRGR Sauce, iceberg lettuce. For every sale of this burger a $1 goes to a local community charity (I believe a different charity is featured every month?)
Though I went in with the intention to rough-up a burger, I was seduced by the description of the fried chicken sandwich. Nashville Style Hot Chicken:
buttermilk fried crispy chicken, Nashville style hot sauce, bread & butter pickles, southern style coleslaw + house mayo. And did it ever deliver!
I won’t go into much details as we covered a lot in the video (below), but as usual, I’d like to share some thoughts.
- The burger and chicken sandwich did NOT come with sides You have to order those separately.
- The portions (burger and chicken sandwich) were massive and could easily be shared (we had to bring home almost 1/2 of each)
- The venue itself is somewhat small and I could easily see it being very busy/packed during peak times (dinner)
- Though small as mentioned above, you never felt crowded.. but I must mention that the round tables can get crowded very fast. We had two sandwiches, two sides and a drink and there wasn’t room on the table for anything else. The taller tables (with stools) seemed as if they had more space.
- Our food came VERY fast and HOT!
- Bathrooms were clean.
- Service was good, not great.. but I hate being overwhelmed and our server took care of us nicely.
I invite you to watch the full video now…
