Heating Up Seoul Korea With Blazing Caribbean Sunshine.
Two days ago I announced on the Facebook Fan Page that I will be heading to Seoul South Korea in early November and the out-pour of love and support was just amazing. Since I know that not everyone frequent Facebook I thought I’d make an official announcement here.
About a month and a half ago I received and email from “Visit Seoul” with a sort of a challenge.. Make a traditional Korean dish, but with YOUR unique spin. I assumed they meant, with a Caribbean spin as that’s what I specialize in – Caribbean cuisine. As a proud son of the Caribbean soil it’s in my nature to be competitive, so there were no doubts in my mind that I would do this. I took a classic way of making Korean fried chicken (yangnyeom tongdak) and did my variation with some Caribbean ingredients, but still not losing the traditional structure of the dish.
Here’s the video I submitted… Korean Fried Chicken (yangnyeom tongdak) Caribbean Style.
Just over a week ago it was confirmed in a message from the judging panel that my video was chosen as a winner. Gosh.. ME!.. WIN? I was confident in my recipe submission, but to get the email confirming that I won was just stellar! You could imagine how I was bouncing around the house (early o clock) to the point where I woke everyone in the house. I refrained from making an announcement, since I still didn’t believe it.. it was just an email. A few days later I got a call from Asia confirming my selection.
We (Indy and I) will be heading to Seoul South Korea on November 4th for a 6 day culinary tour, during which we will be competing against 4 other teams from around the world who were also chosen as finalists. Basically we’ll have to prepare our dish in the kitchen battleground and be judged to see which dish reigns supreme! I’m very confident in my skills and in the dish I submitted, so in true Caribbean spirit .. I’m going to win! In winning we’ll have fun.
If you’re based in Seoul and would like to meet while we’re there, do contact me @ Chris@caribbeanpot.com and we’ll try to see how best we can accommodate this. Bearing in mind that we may have obligations (media appearances etc).
I feel blessed to be able to represent the Caribbean, Canada and YOU (from all over the world) as we embark on this amazing opportunity. Without your continued support non of this would be possible. I am humbled!
Seoul! Are you ready for the Wicked Chef?
