All Day Breakfast At The Bedrock Bistro – A Review.
We’ve been going for all-day breakfast at The Bedrock Bistro for a number of years now, so it was only a matter of time before it showed up on one of our #Gallivanting videos. The Bedrock Bistro is one of those spots in Hamilton you hit when you’ve got that severe craving for a massive breakfast – grease and all! Besides the large portions, I think it’s the addictive coffee (probably one of the best in Hamilton) which encourages me to keep dining here.
Unassuming, Flintstones-themed eatery serving all-day breakfasts & comfort grub, with a salad bar.
It was later in the day (Sunday) when we arrived and was quickly seated as the restaurant was relatively empty – compared to if we had come first thing in the morning when it’s incredibly busy. I immediately got that cup of coffee my taste-buds were screaming for and Tehya decided on a glass of orange juice (somewhat expensive and the server didn’t mention it would be thick with pulp). A quick glance though the menu and the breakfast skillet caught my attention. Tehya would be getting her normal eggs Benedict or so she thought.
As we placed our order we were told that after 4 pm the kitchen does not serve (not sure if it’s only Sundays) eggs Benedict, waffles nor pancakes. Another something the server could have mentioned to us as she made her introductions. So she settled for the Buffalo Chicken Fingers, which came with fries.
Before we get to the video below where we give you some thoughts on our experience, I’d like to go though some things we failed to mention:
Positives!
- excellent coffee (bottomless)
- eggs were perfectly cooked (easy over)
- large portions
- mushrooms were perfectly cooked, with wonderful caramelized edges
- onions like the mushrooms were sweet from that perfect caramelized edges
- everything cut the same size so it was easy to get a bit of each on my fork
- homefries were seasoned to perfection (almost dusted)
- lots of sausage bits
- chicken fingers were thoroughly sauced and had a lovely texture/batter
- the Buffalo sauce had a good balance of flavors (not overly vinegar, which we dislike) The sauce was so good, we contemplated getting an order of actual wings, but with such large portions we had no room.
- service was quick and efficient
Negatives!
- limited ‘breakfast’ options though it’s an all-day breakfast joint
- orange juice was thick with pulp (never told)
- breakfast skillet was overly greasy – but that’s understandable?
- a little expensive?
- butter on toast – tell your server you’ll apply your own butter
- found the ketchup overly sweet
Dining at what is considered a greasy spoon, is what it is.. greasy! With large portions, adequate service, tasty food and incredible coffee, The Bedrock Bistro will remain on our radar.
