Chris De La Rosa Visit To Google Toronto.
If you’re following me on Twitter, you would have seen my tweets about being at Google’s HQ in downtown Toronto yesterday, but what I didn’t reveal was the reason for being there. A week or so ago I was invited to be part of a pilot project for YouTube Canada and I was only too excited to say YES! The opportunity to meet with Google/YouTube staff and get insights on developing my Channel into world wide sensation was not something I was about to pass up on.
I won’t go into specific details as to what the 1/2 day training session was about, but I will tell you that there were about 30 top and up and coming Canadian Youtubers in the group and if you ever get the opportunity to meet with or be trained by Google|YouTube, jump at the opportunity.
What I will give you though, are some tips on how to make such an event successful for YOU!
1. ALWAYS try to complete the pre-course training. Not only will be be prepared for the session, you won’t keep back the rest of the group.
2. PARTICIPATE! Don’t be a fly on the wall. (only you will hold you back)
3. ABSORB – Try to stay focused during the event and don’t get overwhelmed by the success of others. Your time is near!
4. Network – with 30 like-minded people in the room.. there’s no better time to network and create relationships.
5. SWIPE! Create a file (notes) of ideas and thoughts you can implement to build your business (basically you’re stealing what work for others)
6. Make general notes that you can reflect back on when you get home. The day will go fast, so having those notes to go back through will be priceless. You will not remember everything, even if you have the memory of an elephant.
7. Most IMPORTANTLY – put what you learned into action!
8. As a side note, if there are post training work to do (like complete a survey) I do suggest you make time to complete it. it’s the only way improvements can be made for future sessions.
So this post isn’t all about ‘business’, here are a few pics from the lunch (they also had breakfast waiting for us) we were served…
The energy at Google Toronto is simply awesome… from the time you enter their doors to when you take the elevators down, there no escaping that sort of ‘family” feel you get. The training itself was outstanding and the group of YouTubers in attendance made for a very interactive training session.
Special thanks to Google | YouTube for the the invite and hosting us. Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to share some thoughts on the training session with them directly as I know this was a pilot project and my feedback could help shape other such events.
Awesome and congrats on the invite opportunity!
