How To Peel, Core, Cube & Ball Melons.

melon 2

Have you ever paid attention to the price of already cubed or balled melons in the grocery store? We were out in London a couple weeks back where Tehya attends college.. doing some quick groceries for her to have on hand in her dorm, when she reached for cubed cantaloupe. I was astonished at the price! A small container (about 1/2 of a melon) was over $6.  I fully understand that it’s peeled, cored and cubed, but that was 3 times the price of a whole melon!

You’re quite correct in assuming that that $6 package of cubed melon did NOT make it home with us that day. We reached for a whole melon and told Tehya to keep an eye out for an instructional video on how to peel, cube and ball a melon. So here we go:

Depending on if you’re doing balls or cubes, you’ll need.. Chefs knife, melon baller, pairing knife and/or potato peeler.

Preparing melons are very simple and most of all it’s cost effective! BTW.. you ever wonder if the fruit you see already cubed, sliced or balled are from fruits which are going bad and the bad ends removed before taking the good ends for such?
