About
A deep-rooted and genuine love of Caribbean cooking made self-taught chef Chris De La Rosa a staple in millions of kitchens. A down-to-earth, relatable approach to raising the profile of Caribbean cuisine, meanwhile, has turned him into a highly sought-after brand ambassador and partner.
After launching his website CaribbeanPot.com in 2009, Chris became an originator in the creation of Caribbean culinary content. While he initially intended the site as a place to document family recipes for his daughters, it quickly grew to amass a dedicated following.
Today, CaribbeanPot.com not only receives more than 785,000 page views a month, but it has also expanded well beyond its dot com domain. The Caribbean Pot Facebook page is home to 350,000 fans; its Youtube has over 812,000 subscribers and 93.5 million views; and on Instagram, over 67,000 followers engage with Chris’s content. In fact, Chris attracts the largest audience of Caribbean culinary culture — directly connecting with 1.5 million fans each month.
While content creators often manufacture an online persona, Chris’s formula is simple. He is himself. The bubbly chef’s natural charisma is peppered with humour and personal anecdotes that enhance his traditional and fusion recipes and his ever-growing culinary skillset. It’s a method that has deeply resonated with fans. With Chris’s YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram offering ways to personally engage with the chef, fans constantly seek him out for tips on everything from making the perfect rice and peas to braising oxtail in Guinness. After Chris published his book, The Vibrant Caribbean Pot 100 Traditional and Fusion Recipes Vol. 2 —
which, in 2015, earned him a prestigious Gourmand Award and became an Amazon bestseller— global brands followed suit.
Numerous times, Chris has been broadcast into local and national Canadian homes via television (Citytv, CTV, and CP24) as well as through the country’s premier radio station CBC Radio. Beyond Canada, Chris has appeared on regional TV across the Caribbean and on national TV in Seoul, South Korea. During the Seoul trip, he was officially hosted by the mayor and the City of Seoul. Chris has also contributed cooking demos to live streaming specials with Amazon.ca, and he is an alumnus of #YouTubeBlack Voices (a resource created to directly support Black creators). The instantly-memorable personality and relaxed communication style that make Chris a favourite of on-air shows have also translated to print/digital journalism. He has been featured and/or quoted in global and local publications such as The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, Huffington Post Canada, Taste and Travel International, Saveur Magazine, Hamilton Magazine, Biz Magazine, ZiNG Magazine, and others. Canada’s largest food magazine, Food and Drink, named Chris as “one to follow”.
As Chris continues to develop his repertoire, mastering North American fare such as barbecue in addition to Caribbean cuisine, he now names global brands among his collaborators. Door Dash, LCBO, Clorox, Blendtec, Sansaire, OtterBox, Beyond Meat, Calmdo, Traeger Grills, Toronto Caribbean Carnival, Caribbean Airlines, LIAT airline, Grace Foods, Titan Forged Knives, Dalstrong, and Black Foodie have all stirred the Caribbean Pot with Chris.
