Wintertime At St Lawrence Market Toronto.

St Lawrence Market

Other than being on the islands or getting on BAD behind a BIG TRUCK Carnival Tuesday on the streets of Port Of Spain, a day at the St Lawrence Market is truly a happy place for me.  The sights, sounds, scents and overall vibe is unlike anything you’d experience anywhere else in Canada (I’ve been here about 25+ years now). It’s like the best Caribbean market, on much larger and cleaner stage.. the kind of market you dare not visit on an empty belly or you’ll find yourself buying things/ingredients you have no clue how to cook or your diet will tolerate.

With over 120 vendors, merchants and artisans, you may even find that your first visit will have you experience sensory overload (in a delightful way). From the time you walk in trough the main doors off Front Street, you’ll be captivated and hooked!

Tips when visiting the St Lawrence Market.

  • be prepared for crowds on Saturday’s, especially during the summer months
  • walk with your reusable bags or market basket (so you don’t have to use those plastic bags the vendors give out)
  • arrive early if you want to have access to a FULL stock of the baked goods
  • there are two floors, so pace yourself (you’ll need at least a couple hours)
  • take the city transit
  • paid parking is available across the street and at designated parking lots (check their website)
  • yes, it’s wheel chair and baby stroller friendly (elevator to lower floor) but as mentioned it does get crowded
  • bathrooms are on the lower floor
  • try the different restaurants (great breakfast and lunch options.. take something home for dinner to)
  • sit, enjoy a coffee and people watch
  • summer months the patio is a great place to relax
  • take pics.. they’re used to it (your Instagram will love you for it)
  • ASK questions, the vendors are VERY friendly and will love the opportunity to chat about their produce etc
  • be prepared for some WILD stuff (alligator, kangaroo, crocodile, emu meats etc…)

Watch this video and you’ll understand why I’m in love with this place and I call it my Happy Place!
