The Duluth Grill Cookbook II – Cookbook Review.

The most recent addition to my ever-growing cookbook collection is the second installment from the Duluth Grill restaurant in Duluth, Minnesota. If the name sounds familiar you may have seen the episode of Diners Drive-ins and Dives where Guy Fieri played around in the kitchen and sampled the (delicious looking) menu as he normally does.

This second offering supposedly (I don’t own a copy of the original Duluth Grill Cookbook) continues from where book  one left off. With about 30% more content, more recipes, more HD images and a great cross-section of recipes to choose from to suit even the most fussy eater. If I’m not mistaken, there’s even jokes included!

My Thoughts!

  • always a PLUS when there are big, brilliant images to accompany the recipes (it’s rare that a cookbook without images ever join my collection)
  • recipes are precise and easy to follow
  • step by step instructions
  • lovely cross-section of recipes as I mentioned above. Vegan, vegetarian and even Gluten Free offerings!
  • great insight into the restaurant, the family behind the restaurant and how/where the food is sourced
  • simplified use of some ingredients people may find intimidating (like quinoa, bison, daikon and kale)
  • bright, colorful and generally easy to read
  • breakfast, beverages, soups, entrees (very hearty), sides and an enticing collection of desserts.

Though I’ve not had time yet to test-drive any of the recipes… but when you spend as much time as I do around food and in the kitchen, you can easily summarize if a recipe will be worth the effort and time. I have two recipes I’ve already fingered as being the ones I will start with. You may have heard me talk about my luv for pumpkin, so it’s the Velvet Pumpkin Cake (image above) and the 2nd one is this beauty…

I’m a huge fan of Paella (probably my Spanish heritage peeking through), so with the inclusion of Salmon and Halibut.. lets just say I’m intrigued.

If you’d like to own a copy of the Duluth Grill Cookbook II, you can visit their website @ www.duluthgrill.com and click on “Cookbooks” on the top navigation. You can also do a quick search on YouTube if you’re interested in seeing the episode of Diners Drive-ins and Dives where the restaurant was featured (I’m sure there’s a clip on there).
