Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker.

cocnut ice cream

After posting the video for the Coconut Cheese Cake ice cream I made for the cooking class/demo I did at GoCooking (The Hamilton Spectator), there were many emails asking what ice cream maker I used. If it were up to my dad, it would be one of those old school wooden-hand cranked machines which he claims gives you the perfect texture and creaminess to your homemade ice cream. However I don’t own one of those but I just got a Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker which I tested on this recipe.

The Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker is very simple to use and I can’t see how anyone go wrong with this lovely ice cream maker. Basically all you have to do is freeze the ice cream bowl overnight (for best results) as I don’t think a few hours will be enough for freezing the ice cream, especially if it’s summer time or you live in the tropics.

cuisinart-ice-cream-makerThen it’s just a matter of following the instructions – pour  the ice cream base (ice cream custard) into the freezer bowl (which should now be out of the freezer and in the Cuisinart ice cream maker), place the sort of paddle in, cover and get going. For the full 2 quarts it took about 25 minutes (depending on the texture you like). As it begins to thicken up you will hear the motor go louder and almost sound as if it’s struggling.

Since I like my ice cream almost frozen, I then removed the finished ice cream from the ice cream maker and into plastic containers, which I then placed in my freezer for a couple hours to set.

Overall I was very happy with the convenience, easy of use and the final end product (ice cream) we got from the Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker.

Concerns…

1. If you’re in a hurry and the bowl is not frozen, you can’t make frozen desserts.

2. Can be a bit noisy.

3. When the ice cream is done making you’ll find that the bottom layer will be much more frozen than the top and the upper layer will have similar consistency of ‘soft serve’ ice cream. Which means you may have to put it back in your freezer to firm up (as I did).
